President Calvin Coolidge avoided meeting with the press as much as possible. At one of his rare press conferences, Coolidge was asked by a reporter, “Mr President, do you have any comment about tariffs.” “No,” Coolidge replied. A second reporter asked, “Do you have any comment about the farm bill?” “No,” Coolidge replied. A third reporter asked, “Mr. President, do you have any comment about the naval appropriation?” “No,” Coolidge replied. As the press conference ended and the reporters were leaving, Coolidge shouted after them, “And don’t quote me!”
