Robert Murray M’Cheyne is revered in Scotland as one of that nation’s great Christian Preachers. Although he died at an early age, his name already had become a household word. He was fond of telling the story of the night he preached on the text from John’s Gospel in which Jesus says, “I am the door; if any one enters by Me, he will be saved” (Jn. 10:9). A man who had listened to the sermon came to him later and said:
I’ve been a Church member all my life, but I never felt close to Christ until now. When I heard you preach tonight something clicked and I felt that Jesus was very near to me.
