Around about this time every summer, some people wish that their favorite baseball team had a player who, never strikes out, never makes an error, and plays every position perfectly. The problem is, how do you get him to put down his hot dog and come out of the stands?
As we journey through life as Jesus’ followers, what does it take to get us “to put down our hot dogs and come out of the stands?” As we journey through life as Jesus’ followers, what does it take to transform us from mere fans to active participants?
This is Jesus’ concern with the Apostle Peter in today’s Gospel Lesson …
Jesus leads Peter, James, and John “up a high mountain,” Matthew tells us. “There, in their presence, He was transfigured: His face shone like the sun and His clothes became as white as the light” (Mt. 17:1,2). In other words, there they see a mysterious, awesome, glorious vision of the Lord!
