The “Legend of the Grand Inquisitor” is a story in which Jesus visits a town in 16th-century Spain. The Cardinal Inquisitor tries to explain to Jesus why He has no right to return and disrupt the work the Church is doing. Jesus answers not a word, but at the end of the all-night discourse, He simply bids the Cardinal good night. The Cardinal releases Him, saying, “Go and come back no more.” -1 

But Jesus persists in returning! Again and again, He returns to call us to account. He returns at this very hour through the message of today’s Lesson: 

“I tell you, then, that the Kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit” (Mt. 21:43).
